Dr. Adi has been a physician for about 35 years and kidney specialist for over 25 years. While growing up in southeastern Nigeria, he observed his father, an Oxford University educated physician, and his mother who was then a nurse (and later a physician), making the often-hazardous trip every month to their village from the city to provide free healthcare services. For over twenty years, these trips were often the main source of healthcare for so many in the rural areas, and a young boy saw the profound difference a few committed people could make in the lives of others.
Despite college admission into the Computer Science program, he opted instead to study medicine at the University of Nigeria. He then completed his medical residency program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, and the kidney specialty fellowship at Emory University, Atlanta. He also holds an MBA, and is founder/director of Drums of Hope Charity organization which has been providing assistance to patients since 2018.
Dr. Adi is also a KidneyX award winner. (KidneyX is an innovation accelerator partnership between the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and the US Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS)).
I am from Chulucanas, a tranquil town in northern Peru known for its pottery and vast mango and lemon plantations. I received my medical degree from Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal in Lima, Peru. My medical journey includes an internship at Mount Vernon Hospital through the New York College of Medicine and a residency at Bridgeport Hospital within the Yale New Haven Health System. I specialized in nephrology with a fellowship at Yale University and furthered my expertise with a transplant fellowship at the University of Michigan.
Currently, I work with Renal Medicine Associates in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I spearheaded the foundation of the New Mexico Kidney Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating New Mexicans about kidney disease prevention. I envision a world where everyone has access to quality healthcare and firmly believe that education is key to preventing chronic diseases. I support and embrace innovations that improve health outcomes and public health education, striving to advance telemedicine to provide the best healthcare solutions globally.
